1660 Vr Benchmark

A new year often brings with it new hardware and game releases, and 2020 is no different. One of the first major PC game releases this year is Half-Life: Alyx, Valve’s return to the much-loved Half-Life franchise. The game has been built from the ground up for virtual reality, and as such is a showcase for just how far VR gaming has come in recent years.

To see just how well Half-Life: Alyx runs on a range of different VR headsets, we’ve put together this handy benchmark guide. We’ll be testing the game on a selection of popular headsets, including the Oculus Rift S, HTC Vive Cosmos, and Valve Index. For each headset we’ll give you an idea of what kind of performance you can expect, as well as what settings you should use to get the best possible experience.

So without further ado, let’s jump into the benchmarking! We tested Half-Life: Alyx on three popular VR headsets: the Oculus Rift S, HTC Vive Cosmos, and Valve Index. Here’s how each headset fared in our tests.

Oculus Rift S: The Oculus Rift S performed admirably in our tests, managing to deliver smooth gameplay even at high detail levels. We found that setting the graphics quality to ‘High’ gave us the best balance between performance and visual fidelity; anything higher than that started to impact framerates quite significantly. Overall, we were very impressed with the Rift S’s performance in Half-Life: Alyx – it’s clear that this headset is more than capable of delivering a great VR experience.

HTC Vive Cosmos: The Vive Cosmos also did a good job in our tests, although not quite as impressive as the Rift S. Again, we found that setting the graphics quality to ‘High’ gave us solid performance without sacrificing too much in terms of visuals. However, we did notice some occasional stuttering which detracted from the overall experience somewhat. Nevertheless, if you have a Vive Cosmos then you should still be able to enjoy Half-Life: Alyx without any major issues.

Valve Index: Unsurprisingly given that it was developed by Valve themselves ,theIndex had no problems running Half-Life :Alyx smoothly .
